Using the Client Health Score

Dext Data Health & Insights calculates an overall health score for each client, giving you an overview of the health of their books.

The health score is derived from various cleanup tools and insights and enables you to focus on improving the data quality of your clients and easily see that progress on a daily basis.

You can also customise the health score, by selecting the cleanup tools and insights used to generate the score.

How the Health Score Works

You’ll find the client’s health score on the client overview page. The client health score is presented as a percentage, with a heart icon for traffic-light status. The health score is relative to the date selected, and proportional to the size of the client.

You can change the timeframe of the data included by clicking the date in the Health Score section and adjusting it.

You can use the default health score, or customise your health score by selecting the cleanup tools and insights used to generate the score (see the ‘Customising a Health Score’ section below for more information).

The default health score is made up of the following cleanup tools and insights by default:

  • Bank Reconciliation
  • Multi-Coded Contacts
  • Duplicate Contacts
  • Regular Supplier
  • Lock Dates
  • Fixed Assets (Xero clients only)
  • Dormant Accounts
  • Contact Defaults (Xero clients only)
  • Average Debtor Days
  • PAYE (Xero clients only, if configured)

Note: The algorithm for the health score will evolve as we fine-tune the weighting of Data Health & Insights’s different cleanup and business insight scores on the final health score, but keep aiming for that 100%.

The Health Score Over Time

You can see an overview of the history of a client’s health score by clicking the health score on the Client Overview page.

The health score over time feature tracks the changes to a client’s health score and displays this as a graph on the health score details page.

The data range and time resolution (i.e. view by month, week, or day) can be changed in the top left of the section.

You can also view it as a table by clicking View as a table in the top right of the section.

In the table view, you can choose the date range by clicking on the drop-down menu. By default, the date range shown is the one that corresponds to the period set for the Client Overview.

You can also export the data in CSV format, by right-clicking the table. It is compatible with Excel and Google Sheets and will be ready to share with your clients the impact of your team’s hard work.

Clicking Graph View will return you to the graph view.

Customising the Health Score

You can customise the health score by selecting the cleanup tools and insights that are drawn on to generate the score.

To customise the health score:

  1. On the Client’s overview page, click on the Health score on the client overview page. OR you can access it from the practice level by going to practice settings > Data health > health score > customise health score.

2. Click the Customise Health Score button to begin creating a custom health score for the team.

3. On the Health Score settings page, click Customise Health Score.

4. You will then be taken to the ‘Set up’ step of health score settings. Select the checks to be included in the health score calculation by clicking the + Add button next to the check in the ‘Selected Checks’ list.

Note: A custom health score must have between 5 and 12 checks included, and the combined weighting of all the checks must add up to 100%. A higher weighting gives a higher significance of the check in relation to your health score calculation.

  1. When you’ve selected all the desired checks and their weighting, click Next.
  2. You’ll then see a summary and confirmation screen for the selected custom health score settings. When ready, click Save custom Health Score to complete the set up.
