Two-Factor Authentication for Dext

Learn how to set up and use two-factor authentication (2FA) with Dext for added account security. Step-by-step guides for app, SMS, email, and backup codes.

Updated this week

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your Dext account. Even if someone has your password, they can’t log in without your second verification method.

Note: If you use Single Sign-On (SSO) to access Dext, you don’t need to enable 2FA.

What Is Two-Factor Authentication?

2FA helps keep your account secure by requiring both your password and a unique verification code when logging in. This one-time code can be sent via:

  • An authenticator app (like Google Authenticator, 1Password, Microsoft Authenticator)

  • SMS text message

  • Email

You can enable 2FA in your individual user settings at any time.

Tip: If you use an authenticator app but don’t have access to your mobile device, you can retrieve your codes using the respective desktop app.

Setting Up 2FA with an Authenticator App

  1. Click the Profile icon in the top right, then go to User settings.

2. Go to the Security tab, then click Enable next to Authenticator app.

3. Enter your current password and click Continue.

4. Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code, or manually enter the 16-digit key.

5. Copy the 6-digit code from your app into the Dext setup screen and click Enable

6. You'll now see 12 backup codes. Save these somewhere safe - each can only be used once.

7. Tick the box to confirm you’ve saved your backup codes, then click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.

Setting Up 2FA via SMS

  1. Go to User settings via the profile icon.

2. Go to the Security tab, then click Enable next to Text Message (SMS).

3. Enter your mobile number and click Send SMS.

4. Enter the verification code sent to your phone.

5. Click Enable to finish setup.

Setting Up 2FA via Email

  1. Go to User settings via the Profile icon.

2. Go to the Security tab, then click Enable next to Email.

3. Enter your current password and click Continue.

4. Click Send email to receive a verification code.

5. Enter the code from your email and click Enable.

Logging In with 2FA

Once 2FA is enabled, logging into Dext will require:

  • Your username and password

  • A verification code from your selected method

How to log in

  1. Go to the Dext login page or open the mobile app.

  2. Enter your email and password, then click Log in.

  3. You'll be prompted to enter your 2FA code:

    • For email users, check your inbox and enter the code from Dext.

    • For app users, open your authenticator and enter the current 6-digit code.

    • For SMS users, check your text messages

  4. Optional: Select Don't ask me for the code for 30 days to stay verified on trusted devices.

  5. Click Verify to complete login.

Backup Codes for 2FA

When you activate 2FA, you’ll receive 12 one-time backup codes to use if you can't access your phone or email. Each code can be used once only.

Be sure to store these backup codes in a safe place. They’re your last resort if you lose access to your 2FA method.

If you've lost your backup codes and are locked out of your Dext account, contact support@dext.com using the email linked to your account.
