This article explains how to enable biometric authentication in the mobile app, what it’s used for, and how to sign in if biometric login isn’t available.
What is biometric authentication?
Biometric authentication is a way of verifying your identity using physical characteristics that are unique to you, such as your fingerprint or face.
In the mobile app, biometric authentication adds an extra layer of security by allowing you to unlock the app using your device’s built-in fingerprint or face recognition features.
Note: Biometrics are used only to unlock the app. They do not replace signing in with your email address and password.
Types of biometric authentication supported
The type of biometric authentication you use depends on your device settings:
Fingerprint recognition – uses your fingerprint to unlock the app
Face recognition (Face ID) – uses your face to unlock the app
If your device supports both, it will use the method currently enabled in your device settings.
Why use biometric authentication?
Biometric authentication helps protect your account if someone else has access to your device.
For example, if you’ve already signed in and hand your phone to someone else, they won’t be able to open the app unless they authenticate using your fingerprint or face.
Before you start
Biometric authentication must already be enabled on your device.
If you’re not sure how to set this up, you can follow your device manufacturer’s instructions:
Android devices: Set up fingerprint or face unlock
Once biometrics are enabled on your device, you can turn them on in the mobile app.
How to enable biometric authentication in the mobile app
Log in to the mobile app using your email address and password.
Tap More in the bottom right corner.
Scroll to the Settings section.
Turn on the Biometrics toggle.
After enabling biometrics, you can use your fingerprint or Face ID to log into the mobile app.
Troubleshooting biometric authentication
Biometric login fails even though it’s enabled
If biometric authentication is enabled but your face or fingerprint is not recognised, you can still access the app.
Tap Login with credentials, then sign in using your email address and password.
After signing in, you can turn off biometric authentication if needed.
The Biometrics option doesn’t appear in the app
If you don’t see Biometrics under More, check the following:
Make sure you’re using the latest version of the mobile app.
Open your device settings and go to Apps > Dext (or Security/Security & Privacy > Settings for Android).
Confirm that Dext is allowed to use Face ID or Fingerprint authentication.
Close and reopen the mobile app.
Once these settings are in place, return to More and check for the Biometrics option again.
