The Custom insight is where all your saved practice-level reports live. Dext includes several pre-built reports to get you started, and any view you save from a practice insight is stored here automatically.
To access it, select Insights in the left navigation, then select Custom.
Who can use this insight
The Custom insight is available on the Practice Advanced plan. No Data Health & Insights add-on is required.
Practice Admins and Client Admins can access it by default. Standard users need the Access Practice Insights permission enabled in their colleague privileges — check Roles and permissions in Dext.
Pre-built reports
Dext includes a set of pre-built reports covering practice-level data, including client activity, VAT liabilities, health, and financial analysis. Select View Report next to any report to open it.
To create a new report from scratch, select New dashboard — this takes you to the Practice insight, where you can configure and save a new view.
Saving your own reports
You can save custom reports from 5 practice insights:
Deadlines (UK only)
MTD for VAT (UK only)
Once you've configured a table — columns, filters, and row groups — select Save in the top right of the insight. Give the report a name and choose whether to keep it private or share it with your team.
Each saved report displays an icon indicating which insight it was created from.
Managing saved reports
From the Custom insight, each report row has 3 options: View Report opens the report, the star icon marks it as a favourite for quick access, and the three-dot menu lets you edit or delete it.
Client-level custom reports
The Custom insight stores practice-level reports only. For client-level reporting, the Report creator is available in each Data Health & Insights client account under Insights > Report creator. Reports built there use the client's general ledger data and are saved separately within the client account.
