The Deadlines insight gives you a configurable table of HMRC and Companies House submission deadlines across all your clients in one view. To access it, go to your Practice account, select Insights in the left navigation, then select Deadlines.
Important: The Deadlines insight is only available for UK practices.
Who can use this insight
The Deadlines insight is available on the Practice Advanced plan. No Data Health & Insights add-on is required.
Practice Admins and Client Admins can access this insight by default. Standard users need the Access Practice Insights permission enabled in their colleague privileges — see Roles and permissions in Dext.
Admin users see all clients in the insight. Standard users see only the clients they've been granted access to.
Before you start
2 things need to be in place before the Deadlines insight will show useful data.
Company registration numbers must be available for each client. If your practice is connected to Dext for Data Health & Insights, these are pulled automatically from Xero or QuickBooks Online. Otherwise, enter them manually in each client's Business settings > Business profile.
HMRC integration must be connected. See Connecting to HMRC for VAT for setup instructions.
What the Deadlines insight shows
The Deadlines insight pulls data from Companies House and your HMRC integration and organises it into column groups.
The General group covers client identifiers and account assignment. Companies House Details shows registered company information. Accounts Filing and Confirmation Statement show upcoming and past filing dates. HMRC VAT covers VAT return and payment data, including MTD status. The Health group shows each client's Health Score alongside the reporting period it's based on.
Traffic light system
The Accounts Due In and Statement Due In columns use a traffic light colour system to help you prioritise:
Green — 180 days or more away
Yellow — less than 180 days away
Amber — less than 60 days away
Red — overdue
Configuring the table
The Deadlines insight has spreadsheet-like functionality. You can customise it to show exactly what you need using columns, filters, and row groups.
Columns — select the three-dot menu at the top of any column to sort, pin, autosize, group by, or reset columns. Select Choose Columns to show or hide specific columns.
Filters — each column has a filter icon for filtering by that column's values. For example, filter by Accounts Due In to show only clients with accounts due within 180 days.
Row groups — drag any column into the grouping area at the top of the table to group rows by that value. For example, drag Account Assignee into the grouping area to view deadlines grouped by team member.
Saving and exporting
To save your current table configuration, select Save in the top right. Give your view a name and choose whether to keep it private or share it with your team.
Saved views are accessible from Custom in the Insights sidebar. From there, they can be edited, favourited, or deleted.
