Using the Practice insight

The Practice insight shows key client metrics across your whole practice in one configurable, exportable table.

The Practice insight is a configurable table showing key metrics for every client in your practice. Each row is a client. You choose which columns to show, apply filters to focus the data, and save or export the result. It's the quickest way to get a cross-practice view without logging into each client separately.

To access it, select Insights in the left navigation, then select Practice.

Important: The Practice insight is available on the Practice Advanced plan. Clients without the Data Health & Insights add-on will appear in the table, but Data Health columns will be blank for those clients.

Who can use this insight

The Practice insight is available on the Practice Advanced plan. Admin users see all clients by default. Standard users see only the clients they've been granted access to. For more details on managing access, check Roles and permissions in Dext.

Available columns

The Practice insight includes columns across four groups: General, Bank Reconciliation, Cleanup, and Insights. Each group contains metrics relevant to that area of your clients' data.

To see which columns are available in each group, open the Columns panel on the right side of the page.

Configuring the table

The Practice insight has spreadsheet-like functionality. You can customise it to show exactly what you need using columns, filters, and row groups.

Columns — select the three-dot menu at the top of any column to sort, pin, autosize, group by, or reset columns. Select Choose Columns to show or hide specific columns across all four column groups.

Filters — each column has a filter icon for filtering by that column's values. Filter options vary by data type — text columns offer options like Contains and Begins with; date columns offer options like Before, After, and Between.

Row groups — drag any column into the grouping area at the top of the table to group rows by that value. You can also select Group by [column name] from the column menu.

Reporting mode

By default, the Practice insight uses Month End reporting mode — all metrics are based on the last complete month, so every client's data is comparable on the same basis.

Selecting Custom per client uses the Reporting Mode date set in each client's account instead. This means each client's metrics reflect their own custom reporting period, where one has been set.

To change the reporting mode, select the settings icon at the top right of the page.

Saving and exporting

To save your current table configuration — columns, filters, and groupings — select Save. Give the report a name and choose whether to keep it private or share it with your team. Saved reports appear under Custom in the Insights navigation.

To export the current view, select Export. The table downloads as an Excel file.
