Manage a Dext subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play

What you can do in the mobile app, the web app, and the store when your Dext plan is billed by Apple or Google.

Written by Alexander

If you bought your Dext Business plan through the Apple App Store or Google Play, your billing is handled by the store. You can change your plan in the mobile app, check what your plan includes in the web app, and cancel or check your renewal date in the store.

Note: This article applies to Dext Business accounts only. If you use Dext through an accountant or bookkeeper, your subscription is managed by their practice and none of the options here apply to you.

Who can see Subscription in the mobile app

The Subscription option appears in the More section of the mobile app only when all 3 of these are true:

  • You have a Dext Business account

  • You're the account owner for that account

  • Your account is on a free trial, or your plan was bought through the App Store or Google Play

Being a Business Admin isn't enough on its own. Only the person set as the account owner sees Subscription in the app. The account owner is usually the first person who signed up for the account, and every Dext account has one.

You'll still see Subscription after a free trial ends or a store subscription expires, so you can buy a plan and get back into your account.

Note: If you bought your plan directly from Dext, the Subscription option doesn't appear in the mobile app at all. Manage your plan in the web app instead, in Business settings > Subscription.

Buy or change your plan in the mobile app

To buy a plan or move to a different one, tap More in the bottom menu, then tap Subscription.

The plan screen shows:

  • The plan name and price

  • The number of users included

  • The number of documents you can extract each month

  • Any add-on allowances included with the plan, such as sheets of Bank Statement Extraction or documents with Line Item Extraction

Your existing plan is labelled Current plan. Use the and + buttons to set the number of users you need. The document allowance and the price update to match.

Tap Upgrade or Downgrade to move to the plan you've chosen, then confirm the purchase with Apple or Google.

Differences between iPhone and Android

The plan screen works slightly differently depending on your device.

On an iPhone or iPad, you can:

  • Switch between Monthly and Annual at the top of the screen. Annual plans also show the equivalent monthly cost

  • Tap Restore purchase if you've already paid, but your plan isn't showing

On an Android phone or tablet, the standard plan screen is monthly only, and there's no Restore purchase option.

What the mobile app doesn't show

The Subscription screen in the mobile app shows what each plan includes. It doesn't show anything about your account's activity or your billing.

The mobile app doesn't give you:

  • How much of your document, user, or add-on allowance you've used

  • Your renewal or expiry date

  • Whether your subscription is active or cancelled

  • Invoices or receipts for your subscription

  • A way to cancel your subscription

Check your plan and usage in the web app

To see what your plan includes and how much of it you've used, sign in to Dext in a browser and go to Business settings > Subscription.

A message at the top of the page tells you to go to the store to manage your subscription. Below it, the page shows:

  • Your plan name and what it includes

  • Usage, with the number of users and documents extracted against your allowance, and the status of features such as Commerce Lite, Vault+, and Payments

  • Credits, with the included allowance and total usage for each add-on, such as Bank Statement Extraction, Supplier Statement Extraction, Line Item Extraction, Boost, and Commerce Lite

Because Apple or Google handles your billing, the Subscription page is read-only. You can't change your plan, buy add-ons or credit bundles, cancel, update payment details, or download invoices from Dext.

Cancel, or check your renewal date and receipts

If you're subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancellations, renewal dates, and receipts are all handled by the store you bought your plan from.

On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions, then tap Dext.

On an Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then go to Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions and tap Dext.

Your subscription's renewal date, its status, and the option to cancel are all on that screen. Your purchase receipts come from Apple or Google and are in your purchase history with them.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I see Subscription in the mobile app?

Subscription is hidden in the mobile app for 3 reasons. You're not the account owner, you use Dext through a practice, or your plan was bought directly from Dext rather than through a store. In the last case, go to Business settings > Subscription in the web app instead.

How do I know if I'm the account owner?

To check whether you're the account owner, sign in to Dext in a browser and go to Users. The account owner has (Owner) next to their name. The account owner is usually the first person who signed up, and the role can't be changed from within Dext. To move it to someone else, contact the Dext support team. For more on how roles work, go to Roles and permissions in Dext

How do I switch from store billing to paying Dext directly?

To move your billing from Apple or Google to Dext, contact the Dext support team and ask them to set this up. You'll also need to cancel your existing subscription in the store so you're not charged twice. For help getting in touch, go to How to contact the Dext support team

Where can I see how many documents or credits I've used?

Your usage is in the web app, in Business settings > Subscription. The mobile app shows plan allowances only, not how much you've used. For more detail on document allowances, go to How to check your document extraction usage in Dext

Can I buy extra credits or add-ons?

While your billing is handled by Apple or Google, you can't buy add-ons or pre-paid credit bundles separately. That includes add-ons such as Dext AI Assist, and bundles for features such as Bank Statement Extraction or Line Item Extraction.

You can use the allowances included in your plan. If you keep running out, upgrade to a store plan that includes more. To buy add-ons and bundles separately instead, contact the Dext support team and ask to move your billing to Dext. For what's available on a Dext-billed plan, go to What add-ons are available for the Dext Business plan?

When do my add-on credits reset?

Included credits and pre-paid bundle allowances reset at the start of each billing month, and unused credits don't carry over. Your billing month follows the date your store subscription started, which you can check in the App Store or Google Play.

My plan expired. How do I get my account back?

You have 2 options:

  • Buy a plan again from the same store you used before by tapping More > Subscription in the mobile app, or Buy a plan in the expired account banner.

  • Or buy a plan directly from Dext in the web app, which moves your billing away from the store. For the steps, go to How to buy a plan for your Dext business account

For the other reasons an account can expire, go to How do I reactivate my expired Dext business account?
