Adding Multiple Users at Once

Updated this week

Need to add a group of users or colleagues? You can do this manually or via CSV upload.

  1. Go to Users in the Dext web app.

  2. Click Add Multiple Users.

Manually Add Multiple Users

  • Enter details for each user and assign their role individually.

Upload Multiple Users via a CSV File

  • Download the CSV template provided in the app.

  • Fill in user details.

  • Make sure the phone number format includes the Country Code (e.g., UK = 44, US/Canada = 1), the Area/Network Code, and the full number (no special characters)

  • Upload the file.

  • Assign roles and choose how to send invitations.

  • Click Next, then Confirm to invite.

💡 You can resend invites if needed later on.

For Accountant or Bookkeeper Accounts

If you're managing a practice account:

  • Go to the Team section.

  • Click Add multiple colleagues.

  • Follow the same steps above.

For each colleague, you’ll also need to assign which clients they can access.

What Happens If You Invite an Existing Dext User?

The invitation process depends on whether the user already has a Dext account and if their email is verified.

If the user already has a Dext account and a verified email:

  • They’ll be automatically added to your account.

  • The next time they log in, they’ll see your business listed in their account switcher.

If the user hasn’t verified their email yet:

  • Their status will show as ‘Pending invitation’ in the Users section.

  • The invitation is valid for 1 week.

  • Until they accept:

    • They’ll only be added as a Document Owner

    • You can assign items and submit documents on their behalf

    • They won’t be able to log in, submit documents themselves, or use the account switcher

  • When they accept the invite, their email is verified, and they’ll get full access based on their role.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

I see an error: "Creation of users failed" when uploading a CSV.

This usually happens when:

  • The CSV file includes a user who already exists in the account or practice. This could even be a deactivated user.

✅ Solution:

  • Remove the duplicate user from the CSV and re-upload.

  • The rest of the users should then be added successfully.
