What file types can I upload to Dext?

Learn which file types and size limits Dext supports when you upload receipts, invoices, bank statements, supplier statements, and Vault files. Includes rules for PDFs, images, ZIP files, and scanned documents.

You can submit a range of file types to Dext for Costs and Sales items, such as receipts, bills, and invoices.

Accepted file formats for Costs and Sales items

  • JPG

  • PNG

  • GIF

  • BMP

  • TIFF

  • HTML (email only)

  • PDF*

  • DOC**

  • DOCX**

  • ODT

  • RTF

  • HEIC

  • ZIP (must contain only supported file types)

File size limits:

  • Images: up to 6MB

  • ZIP archives: up to 100MB

PDF rules for multi-item documents

PDF files that contain multiple items must meet the following criteria:

  • Maximum of 200 items (1 item per page)

  • Items must not exceed one page

  • Each item must appear on its own page

Formatting rules for DOC and DOCX

To ensure a successful upload, keep formatting simple:

  • Avoid non-standard fonts

  • Do not freeze columns

  • Do not include headers, footers, symbols, or images


Accepted file formats for Bank items

We support Bank Statements only for Bank item submissions.

  • PDF*

  • TIFF

Bank Statement extraction limit:

  • Up to 300 pages per PDF

File size limits:

  • Maximum 50MB or A1 document size

  • For scanned documents, we recommend at least 200dpi


Accepted file formats and limits for Supplier Statements

Supplier Statements support the following size limits:

  • Images (JPEG, JPG, PNG): up to 6MB

  • PDF files: up to 40MB


Accepted file sizes for Vault items

For Vault uploads, you can submit files up to 100MB each, regardless of file type.
