The Bank workspace in Dext Solo

An overview of the Bank workspace in Dext Solo, covering Transactions, Statements, and Accounts, and where it differs from standard Dext.

Written by Alexander

The Bank workspace is where you manage bank transactions in Dext Solo. Transactions come from Bank Statement Extraction or Bank Feeds. Because Solo doesn't use a bookkeeping integration, bank accounts here can't sync from accounting software, unlike standard Dext accounts.

Important: Only Admin users can access the Bank workspace. This includes accountants and bookkeepers accessing a Dext Solo client account.

The three areas in the Bank workspace

The Bank workspace is divided into three sections:

  • Transactions

  • Statements

  • Accounts

  • Rules

Transactions

The Transactions page shows every transaction for the selected bank account.

Transactions come from two sources:

  • Bank Statement Extraction: upload bank statements for Dext to extract automatically

  • Bank Feeds: connect a bank account via Plaid for automatic transaction imports

Use the bank account dropdown in the top right to switch between accounts.

Solo accounts use income sources to organise transactions for MTD and tax reporting. The Transactions page includes an Income source column so you can assign each transaction. UK property income sources also show a Rental property column. Select the relevant value from the dropdown to assign each transaction.

Check your running balance

The running balance shows a running total of an account's transactions over time. Use it to check Dext has every transaction from your bank statement before you reconcile.

To see the running balance, go to Bank > Transactions. Select the All tab.

The All tab includes every transaction for the account, from both the inbox and archive. This means your total isn't affected by transactions you've already archived.

Use Advanced search or Filters to set the date range you want to check. For example, use the opening and closing dates from a bank statement. Dext calculates a running balance for each transaction in that range, shown in the Running balance column next to Paid in and Paid out.

Dext sets the opening balance depending on how the account was added:

  • Added through Bank Statement Extraction: Dext pre-populates the opening balance automatically.

  • Connected through Bank Feeds via Plaid: you enter the opening balance manually in the Opening balance field.

Tip: Compare the running balance on the last transaction in your date range to the closing balance on your bank statement. If they match, you've accounted for every transaction in the period.

Statements

The Statements section is where you manage uploaded bank statements. It has two tabs: Processed and Collected.

The Processed tab shows bank statements that have been successfully extracted. Each row shows the statement's source, dates, and opening and closing balances, with an option to export the data.

The Collected tab shows statements that are currently being extracted, and statements that were rejected. If a statement is rejected, hover over the Rejected status to see the reason. You're not charged for rejected statements.

Accounts

The Accounts page gives an overview of every bank account in Dext Solo, whether added manually or connected via Bank Feeds. Dext highlights any accounts that need attention.

By default, each row shows the account's identifying details, status, currency, and source, plus outstanding items like uncategorised transactions and requested paperwork. Select the columns icon (⚙) to add extra columns, such as balances and sync dates.

Select anywhere on a bank account row to open the Transactions page filtered for that account.

To add a bank account manually for uploading statements, go to How to upload bank statements in Dext

To connect a bank feed, go to How to use Bank feeds in Dext

Rules

The Rules section is where you manage bank rules for automatically coding recurring transactions.

Each rule shows which accounts it applies to, whether it's active, and how many transactions it's matched. It also shows the income source, category, and rental property the rule assigns.

To create a rule, select Create rule. Use the Tools menu for bulk actions across your existing rules.
