How to merge login details in Dext

Merge separate Dext logins into one email address. Works for both business and practice accounts. Your accounts and data aren't affected.

Merging login details in Dext lets you use one email address to access all your Dext accounts. This applies whether you have multiple business accounts, multiple practice accounts, or a mix — the process is the same.

Important: Merging only affects how you sign in. It doesn't combine accounts, move documents, or change any data in your Dext accounts.


Before you start

Before merging, make sure the email address you want to keep is verified in Dext. If it's already verified, you can skip straight to merging.

To verify your email address:

  1. Log in with the email address you want to keep.

  2. Select your Profile icon in the top right, then select User settings.

  3. Select Resend confirmation email in the banner at the top of the page.

  4. Open the email and select Confirm your email.

If there's no banner on the User settings page, your email is already verified.


Merge your login details

To merge your login details, log in with the email address you want to keep before you start.

  1. Select your Profile icon in the top right.

  2. Select User settings.

  3. In the Login details section, select Merge logins.

  4. Select Merge login details.

  5. Enter the email address and password for the login you want to merge.

  6. Review the accounts listed on the confirmation screen. If the account you're merging has Two-Factor Authentication enabled, enter the verification code from that account's authenticator app.

  7. Select Confirm merge.

Important: This action is permanent and can't be undone. Make sure you're signed in with the email address you want to keep before you confirm.


What happens after merging

After you confirm, these changes take effect immediately.

  • The secondary login credentials are deleted — you can no longer sign in with the secondary email address

  • Any SSO linked to the secondary login is removed

  • You keep access to all accounts that were linked to both email addresses

  • No account data, documents, or settings are changed

You'll sign in once using your primary email address and switch between accounts using the organisation switcher.


FAQs

Does merging affect my Dext data?

No. Merging only affects your login credentials. All documents, settings, and account data remain exactly as they were.

Can accounts be merged?

No. Dext accounts can't be merged — each account stays completely separate. Merging login details only changes how you sign in.

What happens to my SSO after merging?

If your secondary login used SSO (single sign-on), that connection is removed when you merge. You'll use your primary email address and password to sign in going forward.
