Camera shot suggestions help you capture clearer, better-framed photos of receipts and invoices in the Dext mobile app.

When enabled, the feature can:

  • Detect documents automatically

  • Suggest an optimal crop

  • Warn you if an image appears blurry

You can turn this setting on or off at any time.

Turn camera shot suggestions on or off

  1. Open the Dext mobile app.

  2. Tap More in the bottom-right corner.

  3. Scroll to Settings.

  4. Toggle Camera shot suggestions on or off.

How document detection works

When camera shot suggestions are turned on, and you open the camera:

  • The app automatically detects a document in view.

  • A yellow frame appears around the document.

  • A yellow crop icon appears in the bottom-right corner.

You can tap the yellow icon to automatically crop the image so that only the document is captured.

This helps remove background surfaces like desks or tables and improves image quality for data extraction.

Blur detection warnings

If the image appears blurry, you will see a warning on the Review screen.

The app may display messages such as:

  • “Some of the images might be blurry”

  • “This image looks blurry”

You can then choose to:

  • Tap Retake to capture a clearer photo, or

  • Continue and submit the image anyway.

Taking a clear image helps ensure your document is processed accurately.

When should you turn this off?

Most users benefit from leaving camera shot suggestions enabled.

You may consider turning it off if:

  • You prefer to manually crop every image

  • You are capturing non-standard documents where automatic detection is not helpful
