The Karbon integration allows you to connect your Dext account with Karbon, helping accounting and bookkeeping firms improve visibility and manage client workflows more efficiently. By integrating, Dext becomes your central hub for document and expense capture while staying tightly connected to your practice management system.
What you can do with the integration between Dext and Karbon
Once connected, you can:
Import clients from Karbon directly into Dext
Match existing clients between Dext and Karbon
Create new clients in Dext from your Karbon client list
Open a client record in Karbon from within Dext using the Karbon icon
Coming soon: Future updates will allow Dext to push client data back to Karbon for even more seamless workflow management.
How to set up the Karbon integration
Step 1: Go to Practice Settings
In Dext, go to Practice Settings.
Find Karbon and select Connect.
Step 2: Authenticate securely
You’ll be redirected to a secure OAuth (Aura) authentication flow.
Log in to your Karbon account and approve access for Dext.
Step 3: Import or match your clients
After authentication, Dext will display your Karbon client list. You can:
Import as new - add clients from Karbon into Dext
Match existing clients - link records between the two systems
To do that:
Go to the Clients list in Dext
Click on Actions in the top right-hand corner of the screen
Select Open Client Sync
4. Next to Karbon, click Add clients.
5. Select whether you want to import the client as a new one or match it to an
existing client
6. Click on Add clients
Note: Dext uses fuzzy matching to identify likely matches. If a match isn’t found, you can select one manually.
Step 4: Confirm your connection
When a client is successfully linked, you’ll see a Karbon icon next to their name in Dext.
Click the icon to open the client directly in Karbon’s Work section.
What to know before you start
Currently, Dext imports all contact types from Karbon.
Client matching uses fuzzy logic, but some may require manual confirmation.
Version 2 of this integration (coming next year) will include data push capabilities from Dext to Karbon.
Troubleshooting
If your clients aren’t appearing or syncing correctly:
Confirm the Karbon connection in Practice Settings
Refresh your client list in Dext
Ensure your Karbon account has permission to access all clients
