You can connect your Okta account to Dext to let your users sign in using their Okta Single Sign-On (SSO) credentials. To set this up, you'll add Dext to your Okta applications first, then connect Okta from your Authentication settings.
Important: In Practice accounts, only Practice Admins can set up SSO. In Business accounts, Business Admins and User Admins can set this up.
Add Dext to your applications in Okta
Before connecting, add Dext to your Okta applications:
Find Dext in the Okta App Catalog and add it to your applications. For help with this, see Add an application in Okta.
When prompted, enter the CRN of your Dext account.
Practice accounts: Go to Practice settings > Practice profile and copy your CRN from there.
Business accounts: Go to Business settings > Business profile and copy your CRN from there.
Connect Okta SSO to your Dext account
Connecting Okta SSO is a two-step process: first, copy your Metadata URL from Okta, then paste it into your Authentication settings in Dext.
Step 1: Copy your Metadata URL from Okta
Open your Dext application in Okta and go to the Sign On tab.
Under Metadata details, copy the Metadata URL.
Step 2: Connect Okta in Dext
Go to your Authentication settings:
Practice accounts: Go to Practice settings in the left sidebar, then select Authentication.
Business accounts: Go to Business settings in the left sidebar, then select Authentication.
Select Connect next to Okta.
In the Configure Single Sign-On window, paste the Metadata URL you copied from Okta.
Select Connect.
Dext will fetch your SAML configuration - including the Issuer, Sign On URL, and Certificate - from Okta. Verify these match the configuration in your Okta application.
You can now assign users or groups to your Dext application in Okta and start using SSO.
Set up Okta SSO for multiple Dext accounts
You can connect all of your Dext accounts to Okta SSO. To do this, install a separate Dext application in your Okta tenant for each account. Each application can then be linked to its corresponding Dext account.
When connecting each account, use the Metadata URL from the relevant Okta application on the Authentication page of that Dext account.
Troubleshooting
Update your SAML certificate
If you change your certificate in Okta, your SSO connection will stop working until you sync it in Dext.
To update your certificate:
Go to Authentication settings and select Refresh.
In the window that appears, confirm the URL Dext will use to fetch your updated data, then select Refresh.
You can also enter your new credentials manually in the fields on the page.
Connect to a new Dext application
If you want to connect to a new Dext application in your Okta tenant, you'll need to disconnect your current connection first.
To disconnect and reconnect:
Go to Authentication settings and select Disconnect, then confirm.
Enter the Metadata URL from your new Okta application.
Verify that the fetched certificates match.
