How Dext works with Zapier

Use Zapier to connect Dext to thousands of apps - submit documents, export receipt data, and automate your workflow.

Zapier is an automation tool that connects apps without code. Connecting Dext to Zapier lets you automate tasks between Dext and over 8,000 other apps - submitting documents, exporting extracted data, creating users, and more.

Zaps are automated workflows in Zapier. Each Zap has a trigger - an event that starts the workflow - and one or more actions that happen as a result.

You'll need the following to get started:

  • A Dext account

  • An account on the app you want to connect Dext to

Triggers and actions

Dext supports the following triggers and actions in Zapier.

Triggers - events in Dext that start a Zap:

  • Export Receipts When Ready - fetches and exports receipt data when it's ready. You can also archive exported receipts.

  • New Processed Receipt Notification - triggers when a new receipt has been processed. Set a threshold number so you're notified after a set number of documents are processed.

  • Export New Processed Receipt Data - automatically exports chosen fields from a processed receipt to your destination app.

Actions - events Zapier performs in Dext as a result of a trigger:

  • Submit Receipts - submits an image from another app to Dext for processing.

  • Submit Sales Invoices - submits an image to Dext to process as a sales invoice.

  • Create New Client Account - creates a new client account in Dext and sends an invitation email.

  • Check Number of Processed Receipts - checks whether new items have been processed for your clients.

For the full list of available integrations and pre-built Zap templates, see Dext on Zapier.

Set up a Zap

Zaps are created and managed in Zapier. To set up a new Zap:

  1. Log in to Zapier and select Create Zap.

  2. Select the app and event you want as your trigger, then select Continue.

  3. Connect and confirm your account for the trigger app, then complete any additional setup Zapier requires.

  4. Test the trigger to confirm it's working.

  5. Select the app and event you want as your action, then select Continue.

  6. Connect and confirm your account for the action app, then complete any additional setup Zapier requires.

  7. Test the action, then name your Zap and turn it on.

Example workflows

Submit documents from cloud storage

Automatically submit files from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box to Dext as they're added.

Set up a Zap with New File in Folder (or New File) from your cloud storage app as the trigger, and Submit Receipts in Dext as the action.

When mapping fields in Zapier, select File: (Exists but not shown) to pass the file correctly to Dext.

Export extracted data to a spreadsheet

Automatically send extracted document data from Dext to a Google Sheet or Excel spreadsheet as new rows.

Set up a Zap with Export New Processed Receipt Data in Dext as the trigger, and Add Row in your spreadsheet app as the action. You can export up to 20 fields per document.

Note: To include item images in the export, make sure image sharing is enabled in Business settings > Exports in Dext.

Get notifications in Slack or Microsoft Teams

Receive a message in Slack or Microsoft Teams when documents have been processed in Dext.

Set up a Zap with New Processed Receipt Notification in Dext as the trigger, and your messaging app as the action. Set a threshold in Dext to control how many processed documents trigger the notification.

Create client users from a spreadsheet

Automatically create Dext client users from rows in a Google Sheet or Excel spreadsheet.

Set up a Zap with New Spreadsheet Row as the trigger and Create New Client Account in Dext as the action. Map the following fields: first name, last name, email address, mobile number, and company name (optional).
