Dext AI Assist learns from how you work and provides tailored suggestions to help automate bookkeeping tasks. This article explains how to enable it and manage usage - whether you're a practice managing clients or a business using Dext directly.
Important: Only Practice Admins and Business Admins can enable and manage Dext AI Assist. If you don't have admin access, you won't see the option in your settings.
For accountants and bookkeepers
Free trial
Dext AI Assist includes a free trial of 50 applied suggestions per client - available for any client that hasn't tried AI Assist before. You won't be charged automatically when the 50 suggestions are used. To continue using AI Assist for that client, you'll need to purchase a licence.
You'll be notified by email and via an in-product banner when a client's 50 free suggestions have been used.
Launch offer
Dext AI Assist is available on a launch offer with uncapped usage until 31 October 2026. Pricing per client per month:

You can cancel a launch offer licence at any time before the offer ends. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current month.
Important: After 31 October 2026, Uncapped usage will end. Dext will recommend a plan based on each client's AI Assist usage. You can keep the recommended plan, upgrade it, or remove AI Assist.
Dext Solo clients: AI Assist is included for Dext Solo clients at no extra charge.
Enable AI Assist for clients
To enable Dext AI Assist for clients, start from the AI Assist page in subscription settings.
Important: This page only appears if you haven't previously enabled AI Assist for any clients. If you've already tested AI Assist with clients before, you'll see the AI Assist usage page instead - go to Switch AI Assist on for more clients below.
Go to Practice settings.
Select Subscription, then select AI Assist.
Choose how you want to enable AI Assist:
Select Try AI Assist for free to start a free trial for clients who haven't used AI Assist before.
Select Explore launch offer to purchase launch offer licences.
If you selected the free trial:
4. Choose the clients you want to enable.
5. Confirm your selection.
AI Assist will be enabled for those clients immediately.
If you selected the launch offer:
6. Select the number of licences you need and select Review plan.
7. Review your purchase summary and select Buy Dext AI Assist.
8. Once purchased, assign licences to clients using the Switch AI Assist on for
more clients flow below, or go to each client's subscription page to assign a
licence there.
Note: Licences may not be available to assign immediately after purchase - it can take a short while for your subscription to update. If you can't assign licences straight away, wait a moment, refresh the page, and try again.
Once enabled, you'll be taken to the AI Assist usage page, where you can track usage across your clients.
How the fit ranking works
The fit ranking helps you prioritise which clients to enable first. The fit score is based on how much data and manual work exists for each client - clients with more documents and frequent edits are more likely to benefit from automation.
You'll see labels such as:
Great fit - ideal candidates to trial Dext AI Assist first
Good fit - likely to benefit, with slightly less automation potential
Worth trying - may still benefit, but with more limited impact
Switch AI Assist on for more clients
To enable AI Assist for additional clients, go to the AI Assist usage page and select Switch on for more clients.
Note: The steps below cover bulk assignment across multiple clients. To assign AI Assist to a single client individually, go to that client's AI Assist page or their Subscription page under Business settings and select Try AI Assist for free.
To start a free trial for a new client:
Go to Practice settings.
Select Subscription, then select AI Assist usage
Select Switch on for more clients.
Select Free trial.
Choose the clients you want to enable.
Confirm.
To purchase Launch offer licences:
Select Switch on for more clients,
Choose Launch offer.
Select the number of licences you need.
Confirm.
Note: You can also purchase Launch offer licences via your Subscription page:
Go to Practice settings.
Select Subscription and scroll down to Client usage.
Select Buy under the Dext AI Assist tile.
Select the number of licences you need and confirm.
Once you've purchased Launch offer licences, assign them to specific clients:
Select Switch on for more clients, or select any banner prompting you to assign licences.
Select Launch offer.
Select the clients you want to activate the Launch offer for.
Confirm.
Note: You can also assign a licence individually - go to each client's subscription page and activate AI Assist from the AI Assist tile.
Track usage as a practice
To track Dext AI Assist usage across your clients:
Go to Practice settings.
Select Subscription.
Go to AI Assist usage.
Review usage metrics and enabled clients.
For businesses
Businesses can enable Dext AI Assist from Business settings. The steps depend on whether you've previously tried AI Assist.
Free trial

If your free trial has ended, you can purchase the launch offer from the AI Assist page.
Go to Business settings.
Select AI Assist.
Select Buy a plan.
Review the launch offer details and select Continue.
Review your purchase summary and select Buy AI Assist.
AI Assist will turn on automatically once your subscription details have been updated.
Enable AI Assist - if you haven't tried AI Assist before
If you haven't used AI Assist before, you can start a free trial or go straight to the launch offer.
Go to Business settings.
Select AI Assist.
Select Try AI Assist for free to start the free trial, or select Explore launch offer to go straight to a paid plan.
If purchasing the launch offer, review the plan details and select Continue.
Review your purchase summary and select Buy AI Assist.
Note: You can also start this journey from Business settings > Subscription, scroll down to the Usage section, find the AI Assist tile, and select How it works or Buy.
Track usage as a business
To track Dext AI Assist usage:
Go to Business settings.
Select AI Assist.
View your AI Assist usage information.
