You can invite an external accountant or bookkeeper to access your Dext account so they can review, manage, and publish your documents.
Granting or removing accountant access does not affect your documents, settings, or historical data.
Important:
This article is for business users.
Only Business Admins and User Admins can invite, remove, or manage an accountant’s access.
Before you start
You can only invite someone who uses a Dext practice (accountant/bookkeeper) account.
If their email is linked to a Dext business account, the invitation will fail.
If needed, ask your accountant or bookkeeper to create a Dext practice account first.
Alternatively, you can add them as an Admin user inside your account instead.
How to invite your accountant or bookkeeper
Log in to the Dext web app.
Go to Business settings > Accountant.
Enter your accountant’s email address.
Click Send invite.
What happens next depends on whether they already use Dext.
If your accountant already uses Dext
If the email is linked to a Dext practice account, you’ll see a confirmation message.
Click Allow access.
Your accountant will immediately gain access to your account.
They’ll be able to:
View documents
Edit and process items
Publish to your accounting software
You can manage or remove their access at any time from Business settings > Accountant.
If your accountant does not use Dext yet
If the email is not linked to a Dext practice account:
Dext will send them an email invitation to start a free trial.
You can preview the email by clicking See how the email will look.
You can check the invitation status in Business settings > Accountant.
Once they create a Dext practice account, they’ll be able to access your account.
Switching to a new accountant
If you’re already connected to an accountant and want to work with a different one:
Go to Business settings > Accountant.
Click Invite someone else.
Enter your accountant’s email address.
Click Send invite.
This disconnects your former accountant. If the new accountant already uses Dext, access is granted immediately after you click Allow access.
