A Dext business account can be paid for by either:
The business itself, or
An accountant or bookkeeper in a Dext practice account who created the account or has taken over payment for it.
By default, the account is paid for by whoever created it.
In this article, a client refers to a business account in Dext that is managed and paid for by an accountant or bookkeeper through their practice subscription.
If you're an accountant or bookkeeper in a practice
This section explains how to:
Take over payment for an existing business account
Use this when a business already has a Dext account, has invited you to access it, and you want your practice to take over billing.
Before you begin
The business must invite you to their Dext account.
You must have access to the client in your practice account.
If the business currently has an active subscription, they must cancel it and wait for it to expire before you can take over payment.
To take over payment
Go to Clients in your practice account.
Select Manage next to the client.
Click Manage client’s subscription.
Select Change who pays.
Click Confirm.
Once confirmed:
The account moves under your practice subscription.
It uses one of your available client slots.
Any charges for paid add-ons (such as line item extraction, supplier statement extraction, or bank statement extraction) will be billed to your practice subscription.
You can track your clients’ usage in Practice settings > Subscription > View usage.
Remove a business from your practice subscription
There is no direct way to transfer a subscription back to a business. If you no longer want to pay for a client, you have two options.
Option 1: The business purchases its own subscription
See the Take over payment from your accountant section below for business instructions.
Option 2: Remove or deactivate the client
You can remove the client from your subscription by deactivating or disconnecting them.
This:
Frees up a client slot
Stops paid add-on charges from being billed to your subscription
Allows the business to purchase a subscription if they want to continue using Dext
Tip: For step-by-step instructions, see Remove or deactivate a client in your Dext account.
If you're an employee or owner of a business
