To add the Dext AI Connector to your firm's workspace, you need admin rights in Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot and a Dext practice account that's enabled for the AI Connector. This article covers the setup steps for each platform.
Before you start
Before you set up the AI Connector, check the following:
You have admin rights on your firm's Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot workspace.
You're setting this up in the right workspace. Each Dext practice account can only authenticate one workspace.
Add the connector in ChatGPT
To add the Dext AI Connector in ChatGPT, review its plugin details and set an installation policy:
Go to Workspace settings, then select Plugins and open the plugin detail page for Dext.
Review the included skills, required apps, and optional apps.
Set the installation policy for each role: choose Available to let members install it themselves, or Installed to install it by default.
Go to Workspace settings, then select Apps and enable each required app. You'll be asked to assign which roles get access.
Note: Disabling an app blocks the capability that app provides, but doesn't necessarily uninstall the plugin or remove capabilities that rely only on skills.
Once this is done, Dext appears under Apps for everyone in the workspace, and each user can connect their own account. For the steps your team follows, go to How do I connect my Dext account to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot?
Add the connector in Claude
To add the Dext AI Connector in Claude:
Go to Organisation settings, then select Connectors.
Select Browse connectors at the bottom of the page.
Select Dext, then review its description and read and write capabilities.
Select Add to your team.
Once you've added the connector, tell your team to connect their own account at Customize, then Connectors, by selecting Connect next to Dext and completing the sign-in.
Add the connector in Copilot
To add the Dext AI Connector in Copilot:
Go to the Microsoft 365 admin centre, then select Copilot connectors and Your connections.
Check the connector's status. Microsoft-published federated connectors are turned on by default unless you turn them off, while partner connectors like Dext need admin approval before anyone can use them.
Turn the connector on or off at tenant level from the connector pane.
Once approved, Dext appears under Tools, then MCP Connectors, for everyone in the workspace. For the steps your team follows, go to How do I connect my Dext account to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot?
Why can't my team see the connector?
If the Dext AI Connector isn't showing up for users in your workspace, check the following:
Confirm you set it up in the correct workspace. Some firms have separate ChatGPT or Claude environments for different teams.
Ask users to refresh the page or sign out and back in. Newly added connectors don't always appear straight away in active sessions.
Check that the user has the right permissions in your workspace to enable third-party apps or connectors.
