How to manage Data Health & Insights connections

Monitor and manage your clients' Data Health connections from one place in Practice settings, and bulk-connect Xero clients.

Written by Alexander

The Connections page in Data Health & Insights gives you an overview of every client's connection status in one place. You can spot disconnected or mismatched clients at a glance, jump directly to a client's settings to fix an issue, and bulk-connect multiple Xero clients in a single flow.

Important: Only Practice Admins can access the Data Health > Connections page in Practice settings.

View your clients' connection statuses

The Connections page shows the current Data Health & Insights connection status for each client in your practice. To open it, go to Practice settings > Data Health > Connections.

Data Health and Insights connections page showing client list with connection statuses and per-client action buttons.

Each client displays one or more of the following statuses:

  • Unintegrated — the client has no active Data Health & Insights connection. Select Add connection to go to that client's connections page and set one up.

  • Connected — the client has an active Data Health & Insights connection to Xero or QuickBooks Online. The last sync date and the connected organisation's legal name are shown.

  • Connection mismatch — the client is connected, but the name of their Dext account doesn't match the name of the connected Xero or QuickBooks Online organisation. This usually means the wrong account was connected. Select Manage connections to go to the client's connections page and review or correct the connection.

  • Connection expired — the connection was disconnected, either manually or due to an external issue such as a Xero subscription lapse or general connection expiry. Select Manage connections to reconnect.

You can search for a specific client using the search bar, or sort the list using the Sort by dropdown.

Fix a connection issue or manage an existing connection

To fix or manage a client's connection, select Manage connections next to the client.

This takes you directly to that client's Business settings > Connections page, where you can reconnect, disconnect, or review the connection details.

For clients that aren't yet connected, select Add connection to go to that client's connections page and set up their Data Health & Insights connection. For step-by-step instructions, go to How to connect a client to Xero or QuickBooks Online for Data Health & Insights.

Bulk-connect Xero clients to Data Health & Insights

The Connect clients to Xero button lets you connect multiple Xero clients to Data Health & Insights in one flow, without visiting each client individually.

Note: Bulk connect is available for Xero only. To connect a client to QuickBooks Online, use the Add connection button for that client.

To bulk-connect clients:

  1. Go to Practice settings > Data Health > Connections.

  2. Select Connect clients to Xero in the top right.

  3. Log in to Xero when prompted — this opens in a new window.

  4. On the Connect Xero organisations page, you'll see all the Xero organisations associated with your Xero login. For each one you want to connect, choose the matching Dext client from the Connect to Data Health & Insights client dropdown.

  5. Once you've matched all the organisations you want, select Connect X organisations at the bottom of the page.
