Smart Suggestions are recommendations Dext generates to help you code documents faster. When Dext identifies a match for a field, a suggestion appears below it so you can apply it in one step instead of searching the list manually.

Smart Suggestions work for 2 field types:

How Smart Suggestions work

Dext generates suggestions differently depending on the field.

For the Project fields, Dext looks at the document content and how similar documents have been coded in your account.

For the Description field, Dext looks at the document content only - it usually suggests the first line item or a summary of the items on the document.

When a suggestion is ready, it appears as a link below the relevant field. Selecting it applies the value instantly.

How to enable Smart Suggestions

Smart Suggestions are controlled from Automation in Business settings.

  1. Go to Business settings.

  2. Select Automation.

  3. Select Smart Suggestions.

  4. Turn on Display Smart Suggestions.

  5. Optionally, turn on auto-apply for project suggestions, description suggestions, or both.

When auto-apply is off, suggestions appear below the relevant field, and you choose whether to accept or ignore each one.

When it's on, Dext applies the suggestion without waiting for you to confirm it. You can turn on auto-apply separately for each field type.

Note: If auto-apply is on for Smart Suggestions and a supplier, customer, or user rule is set for the same field, the rule takes priority. For more details, see Rules and automation in Dext.
