Learn how Dext Payments keeps your business secure and compliant with strong fraud protection, EMI licensing, and global fund safeguarding. Backed by Airwallex and trusted by thousands.

Updated this week

Important: This article is about the Dext Payments Beta, an upcoming feature currently in development.

Dext Payments lets you pay supplier invoices directly from your Dext account - securely and globally. It’s powered by Airwallex and built with top-tier security, fraud protection, and full regulatory compliance.

Here's everything you need to know about how your money and data stay safe.

What is Dext Payments?

Dext Payments is a fully integrated solution inside Dext, allowing you to:

  • Pay supplier invoices directly from the platform

  • Manage payments securely, with full oversight

  • Reduce time spent jumping between tools

It’s delivered in partnership with Airwallex, a global fintech company that enables fast, compliant payments worldwide.

Who is Airwallex?

Airwallex is a leading financial technology company:

  • Trusted by over 100,000 businesses

  • Handles $130B+ in annualized transactions

  • Operates in 23+ countries

  • Specializes in cross-border payments, treasury, and financial infrastructure

It’s licensed and regulated in every country it operates in, offering truly global compliance.

Licensing & regulation: what makes this legit?

Dext Payments operates under Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licenses, held by Airwallex.

This is the same regulatory category used by major non-bank payment providers, such as Stripe, Telleroo, and Xero/Crezco. However, unlike most UK or EU-only EMIs, Airwallex is licensed across multiple jurisdictions.

With Airwallex:

  • Businesses can collect, hold, and send funds across multiple regions with a single provider.

  • Funds are safeguarded under regulated frameworks in each market (UK, EU, APAC, US).

Airwallex is fully licensed and regulated in the countries where it operates (see table at the end of the document). It follows all local laws to provide secure and compliant financial services and keep your funds safe.

What does an EMI license mean?

  • Authorises a company to issue and manage electronic money.

  • It is regulated by the relevant local financial regulator (e.g., by the FCA in the UK).

  • Requires strict safeguarding of client funds (they must be held in ring-fenced accounts, not used for business operations).

  • EMIs can’t lend or invest customer funds but are required to keep them safe and accessible.

How your funds are protected

Dext and Airwallex use a regulated approach called Customer Funds Safeguarding:

  • Segregated Bank Accounts: Your money is stored separately from company funds at licensed banks.

  • No Operational Use: Dext and Airwallex cannot use your funds for business expenses.

  • Insolvency Protection: If either company goes under, your safeguarded funds stay protected and will be returned after verification. Only minimal admin fees may apply.

This ensures your funds are protected by law - not just by policy.
