How to turn tax extraction on or off in Dext

Control whether Dext extracts tax information from costs and sales documents using the Extract tax toggle in Extraction settings.

The Extract tax toggle controls whether Dext extracts tax information from costs and sales documents. You can find it in Business settings > Extraction > Tax.

By default, Extract tax is on in all regions except the USA.

Extraction settings Tax section showing the Extract tax toggle set to Yes

What the toggle does

  • On - Dext extracts tax information from all costs and sales documents submitted after the change.

  • Off - Dext doesn't extract tax from future document submissions. This is useful for VAT-exempt or non-VAT registered businesses.

The toggle only affects documents submitted after you change the setting. It doesn't affect documents already in your inbox.

Exceptions

2 things still apply even when Extract tax is off:

  • Supplier rules - if you've set supplier rules that pre-complete tax information for specific suppliers, these still take effect.

  • Line item extraction - still picks up tax when it's present on a document.
