How to export items as a CSV file

Export cost and sales items from Dext as a CSV to share, analyse, or upload to your accounting software.

Written by Alexander

You can export items from Dext as a CSV file from your costs or sales inbox and from the Archive. Use Advanced search or filters to narrow your selection before exporting.

Export items as a CSV file

To export items as a CSV file, open the export panel from your inbox or Archive, then follow these steps.

  1. Go to Costs inbox, Sales inbox, or Archive.

  2. To export specific items, select their checkboxes, then select Export. To export all items in the current view, leave them unchecked and select Export all.

  3. Select the CSV tab.

  4. Choose a CSV format from the dropdown.

  5. If exporting from the inbox, choose whether to move items to the Archive after exporting.

  6. Select Export, then select Download when the file is ready.

Tip: Admin users can set up a custom CSV format in Business settings > Exports. For instructions, go to How to create a custom CSV export in Dext

Why am I getting a "set total amount" export error?

This error appears when at least 1 item in your selection has no total amount entered — not even zero. To fix it:

  1. Go to Costs inbox or Costs Archive.

  2. Select the Total column header to sort by descending amount. Items with no total appear at the bottom.

  3. Open the item and enter a total amount. Zero is accepted.

  4. Select outside the field to save.

  5. Re-run your CSV export.
