How Dext works with Twinfield

Connect Twinfield to Dext to extract, code, and publish Cost and Sales documents directly to your Twinfield organisation.

Connecting Twinfield to Dext lets you extract and code your Cost and Sales documents in Dext and publish them directly to your Twinfield organisation.

Important: Only Admin users can connect and manage accounting software integrations in Dext. This includes accountants and bookkeepers accessing a client account.


Connect Twinfield to Dext

To connect Twinfield, go to Business settings in the bottom-left navigation, then select Connections. In the Accounting software section, select Connect.

  1. Find Twinfield in the list of available integrations and select Connect.

  2. Select Connect software - you'll be redirected to Twinfield and prompted to log in.

  3. Follow the on-screen steps until you return to Dext.

  4. Select Finish when the confirmation appears.


What Dext syncs from Twinfield

Once connected, Dext pulls the following from your Twinfield organisation:

  • Categories

  • Suppliers

  • Customers

  • Tax rates

  • Bank accounts

  • Projects


Before you publish

Before publishing items to Twinfield, configure the following settings on the Twinfield connection page. Go to Business settings > Connections, then select Manage > Settings next to your Twinfield connection.

Link expense types for publishing

In the Link expense types for publishing section, select which destination in Twinfield each expense type should publish to. The available destinations are Purchase Invoice, Cash, Bank, and Journal.

Link expense types to tax rates

In the Link expense types to tax rates section, select which tax rate should apply to each expense type when publishing.

Send item images to Twinfield

Sending item images to Twinfield lets you view the original document uploaded to Dext directly within Twinfield. This requires setup in both Twinfield and Dext.

In Twinfield

  1. Go to General > Company > Transaction Types.

  2. Select Purchase Invoice and select Next.

  3. Under Free text fields, set Free text field 3 to Allow.

  4. Under Document imaging, enter a name for the field - for example, "Transaction Images" or "Scan".

  5. In the Link field, enter http://$FreeText3$ and save.

In Dext

  1. Go to Business settings > Connections, then select Manage > Settings next to your Twinfield connection.

  2. In the Image field in Twinfield dropdown, select the free text field you configured in Twinfield.


Publishing errors

"Incorrect XML error - the code has not been filled/this transaction type does not exist for this company" - the expense type selected for publishing doesn't match a valid transaction type in Twinfield.

Go to Business settings > Connections, select Manage > Settings next to your Twinfield connection, and select the correct destination for each expense type under Link expense types for publishing.
