General

General settings control how items are published from Dext to Sage Accounting South Africa.

Default publish to destination for costs - sets the publishing destination automatically assigned to new cost items. Options are Supplier Invoice and Bank Transaction. This can be overridden on individual items or by rules.

Default publish to destination for sales - sales items always publish to Customer Tax Invoice. This is the only available destination for sales.

Publish multiple currencies - when turned on, items are published to Sage Accounting South Africa in foreign currency. This setting is off by default.

Multi-currency is a paid add-on in Sage Accounting South Africa. If you publish in a foreign currency without the add-on enabled in Sage, the publish will fail. Only turn this setting on once you've confirmed multi-currency is active in your Sage account.

When enabled, the leading currency depends on the publishing destination:

  • Supplier Invoice / Customer Tax Invoice - the supplier's or customer's currency is used

  • Bank Transaction - the payment account's currency is used

Publish to Sage Accounting South Africa with images - when turned on, images of your documents are attached to transactions on publish.

Important: Attaching images may incur additional costs from Sage Accounting South Africa. Check your Sage plan before enabling this setting.

Warn me when creating a new supplier - when turned on, Dext notifies you before a new supplier is created in Sage Accounting South Africa during publishing. This gives you a chance to check and confirm supplier details before they're added.

Publish item images with expense claims - when turned on, images of documents within an expense claim are included when publishing to Sage Accounting South Africa.

Automatic publishing

The Automatic publishing section lets you publish eligible items automatically as soon as they reach a status of Ready. You can exclude specific cost item types from being auto-published using the Cost items exceptions checkboxes.

For full setup instructions, see How to use auto-publish in Dext.

Publish costs to Sage Accounting South Africa

When publishing cost items to Sage Accounting South Africa, you publish to one of two destinations: Supplier Invoice or Bank Transaction. You can set a default for all items in the General settings, and override it on individual items or using rules.

Supplier Invoice

Supplier Invoice is used for unpaid invoices - items where payment hasn't been made yet. When you publish to Supplier Invoice:

  • No payment method is required for the item

  • Any payment method applied to the item is disregarded on publish

  • Published items appear in Sage under Supplier > Transactions > Supplier Invoices

Bank Transaction

Bank Transaction is the equivalent of publishing directly to a bank account in Sage. When you publish to Bank Transaction:

  • A payment method linked to a bank account in Sage is required on the item - publishing will fail without one

  • The payment method determines which bank account the item is sent to

  • Published items appear in Sage under Banking > [the bank account the item was sent to]

To set up your payment methods and link them to bank accounts before publishing, see How to link a payment method to a bank account.

Reconnect or change your connection

If your connection has expired or you need to connect to a different organisation, see How to reconnect or change your accounting software in Dext.
