If you use a multi-currency Xero account, you can choose whether Dext publishes transactions in your base currency or in the original transaction currency. You control this from your Xero connection settings in Dext.
Important: Only Admin users can manage accounting software settings in Dext.
If you’re an accountant or bookkeeper accessing a client account, you act as an Admin by default.
Enable publishing in multiple currencies
To publish transactions to Xero in their original currency, you need to turn on multiple currency publishing in your Xero connection settings.
To enable this setting:
Go to Business settings.
Select Connections.
Select Manage next to Xero.
From the dropdown menu, select Settings.
On the Xero settings page, find Publish multiple currencies.
Set it to Yes.
When this setting is turned on, Dext publishes transactions to Xero in the currency shown on the document.
Publish using Dext generated exchange rate
If you want Dext to send its own calculated exchange rate to Xero, enable the exchange rate setting in your Xero connection settings.
To turn this on:
Go to Business settings.
Select Connections.
Select Manage next to Xero.
From the dropdown menu, select Settings.
Turn on Publish using Dext generated exchange rate.
When this setting is enabled, Dext sends its generated exchange rate to Xero when publishing foreign currency transactions.
If this setting is off, Xero calculates the exchange rate after the transaction is published.
What happens if multiple currency publishing is off?
If Publish multiple currencies is set to No, Dext converts every transaction into your Dext base currency before publishing it to Xero.
This means Xero receives all transactions in a single currency, even if the original document was in a foreign currency.
How to check or change your base currency in Dext
Your base currency in Dext determines how transactions are converted when multiple currency publishing is off.
To view or change your base currency:
Go to Business settings.
Select Business profile.
Review or update the Base currency field.
Select Save if you make changes.
