The tax report in Dext Solo shows a client's income and expenses mapped to HMRC tax return boxes for a selected income source and tax year. It's the main tool for reviewing categorised transaction data at year end and exporting figures to complete a tax return.

To access it, go to Reports in the sidebar and select Tax report.

Note: The report format depends on the income source type: SA103F for self-employment, SA105 for UK property. The income source name and form type appear in the page heading.

Reading the report

The tax report organises transactions into Business income and Business expenses, with each category mapped to a tax return box. Categories expand to show the underlying Dext categories that map to them, along with their totals.

For UK property (SA105) income sources, the report shows the client's proportional share of each figure based on their ownership percentage.

For self-employment (SA103F) income sources, the report includes a Disallowable column for expenses. If the client uses CIS, a CIS suffered column also appears alongside income figures. See How to use CIS for self-employed clients in Dext Solo for details on CIS in Dext Solo.

Selecting the drill-down (eye) icon next to any category opens the individual transactions that make up that figure.

Selecting any row in the transaction list opens the full item or transaction, where you can review details and make any edits needed.

Filtering the report

The report includes three controls in the toolbar:

Income source - only appears if the client has more than one income source. Use the dropdown to switch between them. Each income source has its own tax report.

Tax year - select the tax year to view. The report defaults to the current tax year.

Previous period - toggle on to add a comparison column showing figures from the prior tax year alongside the current year.

Tax boxes - toggle on to show the SA tax box number next to each category. Toggle off to hide them.

Uncategorised items

If any transactions in the selected period are uncategorised or incorrectly categorised, the report displays a warning banner and shows an Uncategorised row in the relevant section. Select the Items to review link in the banner to resolve issues before filing.

Export to CSV

To export the tax report, select Export to CSV in the top left of the page. The export includes all figures for the selected income source and tax year.
