Some of your clients may be better served via Dext Solo, Dext Prepare’s HMRC recognised software for complete control and visibility of your clients’ data.
Use the Review Businesses page to see a list of your eligible clients and select where you’d like to manage them from; either by keeping them in Dext Prepare or moving them to Dext Solo.
Please aim to complete the client review process at least 30 days before your next renewal to ensure we can give you the most accurate plan for your needs.
Once your new plan begins you will be able to complete the process of moving your clients to Dext Solo, with the desired settings applied and transaction data collection method selected.

Why Might You Want to Move a Client to Dext Solo?
Moving the client to Dext Solo will enable you to:
- Set up an individual as a client, and have all of their sole trader businesses and landlord businesses in one place
- Manage the costs associated with properties for your landlord clients
- Unlock tax reports that can be used to complete tax returns
Meanwhile the client can:
- Continue to use the Dext app to capture their business data, either by using a simple bank feed with cash coding, or adding costs and sales documents.
- Access everything an unincorporated, non-vat registered individual would need from the Dext Prepare app, with an in app experience designed specifically for them.
Selecting a Client to Move to Dext Solo
To review your clients:
- In your Dext Prepare account you will see a banner on your Client View page letting you know if you have clients that may be better served via Dext Solo. Click Review Businesses to view them.
- You will see the suggested criteria for moving a client to Dext Solo or for leaving it in Dext Prepare.
- When ready, click Review Businesses.
- On the Review Businesses page you will see a list of the businesses that may be best served in Dext Solo. Go to Unreviewed businesses.
- To indicate a client should be managed via Dext Solo, select Dext Solo in the Move to Dext Solo column.To keep the business in Dext Prepare, select Prepare in the Leave on Prepare column.
If you wish to change this decision in the future you can go to the Reviewed businesses tab and make that change.

Completing the Migration to Solo
To migrate a client from Prepare to Solo:
- Go to your Dext Solo client list via the sidebar.
- Click on the name of the client you wish to migrate. Be sure you’ve previously reviewed the client and selected to have it migrated to Solo.
- You will then follow a step-by-step process to move the client to Solo.
First, review the types of businesses that should be in Solo to ensure the client should be moved there. When ready click Move business.
- Review the differences between having a client in Prepare or Solo and the available features and when ready click Continue.
- Enter the client’s email address and National Insurance Number and click Next.
- You will then be directed to one of three flows depending on if the details you entered match a client or user already in Dext Solo:
- If the client already exists in Solo you have the option to add the business to their existing businesses by clicking Add business to this client.
- If the user matches the details of a user in Dext Solo you can give them access to the business you’re moving to Dext Solo. Ensure the details are correct, including the fields pre-populated with the client’s information already held, then click Next.
- If there is no client in Solo that matches, you can create a new client by adding the requested information and clicking Next.
- Next, add a business to the client by entering the business name and selecting the type of business: Self Employed or UK Property. When done click Next.
- Review the summary of the next steps and click Finish.
