Dext U is Dext's official learning platform. It's free for all accountants and bookkeepers on Dext and lets you build your skills at your own pace — through short video modules, hands-on tasks, and a structured certification path.

To open Dext U, select the graduation cap icon (🎓) in the top-right corner of Dext.

On your first visit, a window appears with an overview of Dext U. Select Start certification to continue.

You'll then be taken to a screen asking you to allow Dext Academy to connect to your Dext account. Select Allow — this is a one-time step that links your progress to your account.

Dext U is organised into Paths — structured learning journeys made up of modules.

There are 3 certification paths and 2 standalone courses:

You can follow the certification paths in order or jump straight to the modules most relevant to you. Progress is saved automatically.

Each module includes a short video tutorial presented by a Dext expert, alongside hands-on tasks to complete in Dext to reinforce what you've learned.

To complete the tasks, you can use:

To access the demo account, select the ? icon in the top-right corner of Dext and choose Demo account. This opens a shared client account called Demo Client. You can use it just like any other client account — including connecting it to accounting software. Any work you do in it is saved, and colleagues can access it at the same time. The demo account doesn't appear in your client list and can't be deleted or reset.

You must fully watch the video before moving on from each task.

To earn your Dext Certification, complete all 3 certification levels. You'll earn a badge after each level:

Once you complete all 3 levels, your official Dext Certification is issued. You can view, share, and download it directly from Dext U.

You can track your certification progress and access your certificate directly from Dext or from Dext U. Admins can also monitor their team's progress from the Team tab.

After you've started Dext U, selecting the graduation cap icon (🎓) in Dext opens a progress panel showing your current certification level. The panel updates as you progress:

Selecting Share my certificate takes you to your certification page in Dext U. Select View Certification to open the certificate, then choose from:

If you're a Practice Admin or Client Admin, you can monitor your team's certification progress from the Colleagues page in the Team tab in Dext. A Dext Certification column shows each team member's current level and whether they've started their training.
