Publishing credit notes to QuickBooks has a specific path.
To export negative total amounts please open the 'Item details page ' and set the 'Publish to' field to 'Credit note', This is so the QuickBooks Online API will not reject the negative amount.
We await an improvement whereby if the document type is set to 'Credit note' the 'Publish to' field will automatically become 'Credit Note'.
